Do You Know How To Track Your Website’s Performance?

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Tracking and analysis of visitor data are the cornerstones of successful internet marketing. Without them, you could only succeed with luck. With them, anyone can succeed. Now you likely would have heard before that you should track everything that you possibly can, and this is true. However, it’s obvious that some information is more important to analyse properly and keep track of. Here are a few things you should be concentrating on with your tracking efforts.

Sales Page

It should go without saying, but the most important parts of your website are the parts that actually make you money. Your sales page is the most vital to your money making efforts, so this should be the area that you focus on most. Regularly read the reports compiled by your tracking software, and analyze and consider the data to see if you can find any ways to make your sales page convert better. If your visitors are not spending much time on your sales page, then you may want to make it shorter. If they consistently click away to another part of your site without buying altogether, you may need a complete rewrite. Whatever information you get, it’s vital to get it as soon as possible and act on it straight away, otherwise you could be throwing money away.

Email Opt-Ins

Your email opt-ins are important for the same reason – you can make money from them by selling to them later down the line. It really is unbelievable just how much money you can make from an email subscriber list, so you want to treat opt-ins like gold dust. Make sure that a high percentage of the people visiting your website opt-in for your email list. If they aren’t doing, you may want to consider placing your opt-in box in another area of the page, or advertizing it more heavily. Keep track of how well you’re doing at all times using your tracking reports.

Affiliate Sales

If you have your own product, you can make some extra money by getting affiliates to sell your product for you in return for a small commission. You’ll get plenty of people happy to do this, but they’ll want to make sure you can track their affiliate link properly. They need to be sure that they get paid their commission each time they make a sale, so you have to use some software to track your customer’s cookies. You can use your tracking software to ensure that these customers are tracked right through the system, and your affiliates are credited for their hard work. Since they provide sales at no extra effort to you, it’s well worth looking after them.

The benefits of a good tracking system are nearly endless. It’s always important to know what visitors to your site are doing, but once they turn into customers, it’s essential. If you don’t know how to track your website’s performance, you are losing out on potential customers, which means you’re losing out on profits.

Profit From Tracking Visitors To Your Website

Friday, July 24th, 2009

If you want to make the most money that you possibly can from internet marketing, you need to start tracking the visitors to your website. Tracking software allows you to analyze your visitors’ behavior, so that you can make adjustments. No matter how good you think your intuition is, the numbers and data that you can produce relating to your website will always give you a better and more certain picture of how well your website is working.

You should already be tracking all of the traffic sources that come to your website, so let’s focus on the most important part of the equation – conversions to sales.

Your Sale s  Page

You can use tracking software to find out how many people click through to your sales page, how long they stay there, and how many of them go on to buy. Now, this in itself is very useful information to have, and will help you to budget your PPC campaigns, but you can go much further than this. You should be focusing on how to make that sales page convert better, all the time.

The  Split  Te st

Experienced internet marketers use split tests all the time. The concept is very simple, but powerful. Let’s say you have a sales page which is converting quite well, but you think one part of it needs to be improved. Fortunately, you don’t have to rely on your feelings here. Change your sales page, and put the old version and the altered version up side by side. Send half of your traffic to one, and half to the other. Track all of your data, and you can see for yourself which page converts better. The numbers never lie. This is where tracking can really come into its own.

Further  Use s

The split test is too good an idea for you to confine it to your sales page. Anywhere you can track your users, you can use split tests to optimize your content. Many people make money by marketing to an email list. You can divide your email list into two groups, and market your products differently to them. You can see for yourself how powerful this can be – you will be making money while continually getting data to improve your ability as a salesperson and a marketer.

The  Importance  Of Analysis

This technique becomes completely useless without the data to go with it. You should try to capture every single piece of information you can about your customers. Everything new that you learn about them will help you to serve their needs better, and to grow your business quicker. Your goal here should be to build up a complete model of how your customers think, and what they respond to. You need to analyze the data that you get in as many ways as you can think of. You will be surprised at what you can learn, and information about your customers will always translate into success for your business.
